Men’s getaway
July 14, 2012

The guys in our church went on a getaway together, starting with rounds of ultimate frisbee and capture the flags. My small group went off to Varoot’s place to hang out for a bit and sleep, and gosh, it was so cold during the night with a/c on. Whenever I bring a sleeping bag, it’s too hot and when I don’t, I regret, fail.

Saturday started at 7:30 am with a cool shower, quiet time to read the word, and some breakfast. I wanted to sleep more of course, ha. We were supposed to at the church by 9 but we ended up getting there close to 9:20 — an extended Michigan time, cough. We prayed, drove off to Silver Lake, and started the 5 mile hike. The path was narrow and we probably walked for two hours or so, but I was able to have great conversations with people during the time. It was tiring a bit, but chatting constantly helped for sure.

After finishing the trail finally, we grilled and ate lunch, mmmm, filling, or Phil-ing, as my lcg would say. I’m usually not the type to jump into the water, especially without a swimsuit, but the water was so warm and gentle that I had to go in. We played this cat and mouse game, and I was reminded of how much I missed swimming. I can’t swim well at all now with this lengthy body of mine compared to a decade ago. I should probably try to pick up swimming again!

Then we went to Asia city to feast, and yes, I was satisfied. This getaway didn’t have a scheduled bible study or sermon or anything like that, but the getaway was an enjoyable one to spend time with other guys and bond with them. I could’ve stayed home to save myself the hassle and cut down on spending too, but I don’t regret it 🙂
